Job Description

1. Dispensing and Patient Support

  • Dispense prescribed medicines accurately and ensure correct dosage, duration, and instructions are communicated clearly to patients.

  • Counsel patients on proper medication use, possible side effects, storage requirements, and the importance of adherence.

  • Provide special instructions for vulnerable patients such as children, elderly, pregnant/lactating women, and persons with disabilities.

2. Medicines and Supply Chain Management

  • Maintain an updated stock inventory of medicines and medical supplies at the health post.

  • Monitor consumption trends and prepare timely requisitions to avoid stock-outs or overstocking.

  • Ensure medicines are stored according to required conditions (temperature, humidity, light protection).

  • Conduct routine stock checks, maintain bin cards, and reconcile with physical counts.

  • Remove and safely dispose of expired or damaged medicines in accordance with organizational and national guidelines.

3. Quality Assurance and Rational Use

  • Ensure all medicines are dispensed according to standard treatment protocols and prescriptions provided by qualified medical staff.

  • Support the Medical Officer in promoting rational drug use and antimicrobial stewardship.

  • Report and document any adverse drug reactions (ADRs) or unusual medicine-related issues (pharmacovigilance).

  • Educate patients and staff on risks related to misuse, overuse, or incorrect use of medicines.

4. Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate dispensing records, stock registers, and pharmacy reports.

  • Support preparation of daily, weekly, and monthly reports on medicine consumption, stock balance, and expiry monitoring.

  • Ensure confidentiality of patient data linked with pharmacy services.

5. Coordination and Teamwork

  • Collaborate closely with Medical Officers, Nurses, and Medical Assistants to ensure integrated patient care.

  • Participate in staff meetings and contribute to case discussions related to medication management.

  • Provide guidance and basic orientation to health workers and volunteers on safe medicine handling.

  • Assist during supervision, monitoring visits, and donor/partner assessments.

6. Accountability and Safeguarding

  • Provide respectful, non-discriminatory, and culturally sensitive service to all patients.

  • Uphold safeguarding, Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), and gender-sensitive practices in pharmacy operations.

  • Ensure equal access to medicines for all patients regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, or disability.

  • Respond professionally to patient and community feedback regarding pharmacy services.

7. Any Other Duties

  • Perform any other responsibilities as assigned by the line manager or senior management that are in line with the role and organizational needs.

Experience

  • 2 to 3 years
  • The applicants should have experience in the following business area(s): NGO

Education

    • Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm)
  • Valid registration with the Pharmacy Council of Bangladesh (PCB).

Additional Requirements

  • Age 25 to 40 years
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience as a pharmacist in a hospital, clinic, or primary healthcare setting.

  • Experience working in humanitarian health projects, refugee camps, or community-based healthcare is highly desirable.

  • Strong knowledge of pharmacology, therapeutics, and rational drug use.

  • Ability to dispense medicines accurately and provide effective patient counselling.

  • Familiarity with stock management, supply chain systems, and pharmacy record-keeping.

  • Understanding of essential medicines lists and standard treatment guidelines.

  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control (IPC) in pharmacy operations.

  • Good communication, counselling, and teamwork skills.

  • Basic computer literacy for inventory management and reporting.
