Medical Officer (Male and Female)
Job Description
1. Clinical Care and Patient Management
Apply medical knowledge and skills for accurate diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of illnesses.
Conduct consultations, prescribe treatment, and ensure timely referral of critical cases.
Provide clear explanations to patients and/or family members about conditions, treatment, and follow-up care, ensuring informed consent and understanding.
Deliver lifesaving clinical services in line with approved medical protocols.
Collaborate with other doctors and healthcare professionals for complex case management.
2. Medicines, Equipment and Infection Control
Ensure rational use and proper documentation of medicines and medical supplies.
Oversee sterilization, disinfection, and maintenance of medical materials and equipment.
Monitor infection prevention and control practices, ensuring universal precautions are followed at all times.
3. Supervision and Quality Assurance
Supervise and guide the clinical team during daily operations, including triage, registration, vital signs, MUAC screening, consultations, and pharmacy.
Monitor the proper functioning of the health post, including medical equipment and supplies.
Provide on-the-job coaching and guidance to medical/paramedical staff to ensure high-quality patient care.
4. Coordination & Meetings
Participate in regular staff meetings organized by GUSS to review progress, challenges, and planning.
Attend health sector and camp-level coordination meetings as requested by line manager.
Share updates on patient trends, challenges, and operational needs during coordination forums.
Liaise with CiC health focal points, other NGOs, and visiting stakeholders during monitoring visits to the health post.
5. Data, Reporting and Documentation
Maintain accurate and confidential patient records.
Contribute to weekly and monthly health post reports with patient numbers, types of illnesses, referrals, and treatment outcomes.
Support case documentation, success stories, and incident reports for organizational and donor reporting.
6. Emergency Response
Actively participate in health post emergency cases and provide on-call support when necessary.
Ensure appropriate referral and follow-up systems are in place for critical patients.
7. Accountability and Safeguarding
Uphold safeguarding, PSEA, and gender-sensitive approaches in all clinical services.
Ensure equitable, respectful, and inclusive healthcare services for women, men, children, elderly, and persons with disabilities.
Contribute to maintaining a safe, confidential, and accountable environment for patients and staff.
8. Any Other Duties
Perform any other responsibilities as assigned by the line manager or senior management that are in line with the role and organizational needs.
Experience
- 2 to 5 years
- The applicants should have experience in the following business area(s): NGO
Education
- Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery(MBBS)
Valid registration with BMDC (Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council).
Additional Requirements
- Age 27 to 40 years
Experience working in refugee camps, with displaced populations, or vulnerable communities is highly desirable.
Proven experience in clinical supervision, patient care, and implementation of standard medical protocols.
Strong clinical knowledge and skills in diagnosis, treatment, and referral systems.
Familiarity with national health protocols and humanitarian health service delivery.
Good knowledge of infection prevention and control practices.
Excellent communication and counselling skills with patients and families.
Ability to supervise and support clinical teams in a busy health post.
Ability to work under pressure in a humanitarian setting.
