Job Description
1. Maternal and Newborn Care
Conduct safe and clean deliveries, provide essential newborn care, and manage normal obstetric and neonatal cases.
Provide focused antenatal care (ANC) and postnatal care (PNC), including screening, counselling, and treatment as needed.
Identify high-risk pregnancies and support timely referral and follow-up.
Support women, girls, and families throughout pregnancy, labor, and postnatal periods with dignity and respect.
Participate in patient escorts and provide emergency obstetric and newborn care as needed.
Ensure timely notification and participation in review processes for neonatal deaths, maternal deaths, and stillbirths.
2. Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) Services
Provide family planning services including counselling, contraceptive provision, and follow-up.
With Medical Officer’s support, provide menstrual regulation (MR), post-abortion care (PAC), STI management, and GBV case management support.
Offer accurate SRH health education, emotional support, and reassurance to patients and their partners at the facility, community, and safe spaces.
Coordinate with CHWs to ensure regular ANC/PNC/Neonatal/GBV follow-up and defaulter tracing.
Support SRH outreach activities and collaborate with NGO partners and volunteers in preventive health programme.
3. Clinical Support and Coordination
Assist the Medical Officer in history taking, examinations, treatments, and referrals.
Perform basic laboratory specimen collection and assist in medical procedures as needed.
Ensure proper infection prevention and control (IPC) procedures in all SRH and delivery services.
Maintain daily checklists of SRH equipment, commodities, and medicines to ensure they are stocked, organized, and within expiry dates.
Ensure medical equipment functions properly, perform troubleshooting, and coordinate timely maintenance.
4. Documentation, Reporting, and Capacity Building
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, registers, and data collection tools.
Support the Medical Officer in preparing daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
Participate and/or facilitate continuous medical education, on-the-job training, and capacity development activities.
Contribute to audits, assessments, and programme reviews as required.
5. Accountability and Safeguarding
Provide compassionate, respectful, and culturally sensitive care to all patients.
Uphold safeguarding standards, including Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), child protection, and gender equality.
Promote community awareness and trust in SRH services, addressing misconceptions and encouraging facility-based care.
Ensure patient confidentiality and ethical standards in all clinical practices.
Respond to patient and community feedback in a professional and accountable manner.
6. Any Other Duties
Perform any other responsibilities as assigned by the line manager or senior management that are in line with the role and organizational needs.
Experience
- 2 to 3 years
- The applicants should have experience in the following business area(s): NGO
Education
- Diploma in Midwifery
Valid registration with Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council (BNMC).
Additional Requirements
- Age 25 to 40 years
Minimum 2–3 years of experience as a midwife in a hospital, clinic, or primary healthcare setting.
Experience in humanitarian, refugee, or camp-based health projects is highly desirable.
Prior work in maternal and child health programs under NGOs or government health services will be an advantage.
Strong knowledge of maternal, newborn, and reproductive health.
Skilled in ANC, normal delivery, PNC, and newborn care.
Ability to identify obstetric and newborn complications and make timely referrals.
Knowledge of family planning methods and counselling techniques.
Competence in infection prevention and safe clinical practices.
Good communication, counselling, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports.
Team player, adaptable to humanitarian and emergency settings.
